MRI of Knee
MRI images are formed by the computer processing of signals that are given off by body tissue. These signals are generated using a safe magnetic field combined with radio waves of a certain frequency. Different tissue characteristics are discovered through this procedure and translated into different contrast levels on the image.
The procedure lasts typically anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the type of information required by your physician. All that is asked of you is to remain as still as possible during the procedure. In fact, some patients fall asleep during their MRI exam.
No preparation is required prior to an MRI scan other than removal of makeup, jewelry, wallet, watch, pocket change, hair pins/clips, etc. prior to examination.
