Chest X-ray |
Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen's discovery of X-rays in 1895 has provided great benefit to medicine for diagnosis and treatment of disease. Diagnostic radiology involves the use of X-rays to see inside the human body.
Diagnostic radiographic images are often recorded on film. Examples of such examinations include x-rays of the chest, abdomen, pelvis, skull and extremities. An x-ray image is produced when a small amount of radiation passes through the body striking an image receptor such as film, an image intensifier or a digital detector. This creates a "shadow" of the area through which the radiation has passed.
