Color Flow Doppler

A color flow doppler ultrasound exam examines the blood flow in major arteries and veins in your neck, heart and legs with the use of ultrasound.   This procedure uses audio to hear the "swishing" noise of the blood flowing through the various parts of your body.  This test is used to diagnose blood clots, venous insufficiency, and abnormalities in the carotid artery blood flow.

A gel is placed on the area of the body where you are to be examined.  The high-frequency sound waves are then directed to the artery or veins being examined.
